Ten random things: July 18

My list today was going to be "ten suprises in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," but a) I've only come up with seven entries after thinking about it for a half-hour, and b) they all suck. So screw it.

Ten songs from my music library that have the name of a state in the title:

  1. Charlie Daniels Band, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia"
  2. Rufus Wainwright, "California"
  3. Word of Mouth Chorus, "Alabama"
  4. Bobby Darin and Johnny Mercer, "Mississippi Mud"
  5. Dar Williams, "Iowa (Traveling III)"
  6. The Pogues, "Fairytale of New York"
  7. The B-52s, "Private Idaho"
  8. The Beatles, "Memphis Tennessee"
  9. Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, "Ohio"
  10. Patty Griffin, "Florida"

I guess "Mississippi Mud" is more about the river than the state, but so what.

For some reason, I thought this list had been done already. I know we had a conversation about Iowa, because it's an awesome song. At least, I was pretty sure we had.

We have had a conversation about that song, but it was inspired not by a list of ten things, but by a work of art.

Just as "Fairytale of New York" is more about the city than the state. But you're right. So what?

So what
And I also don't think Private Idaho is really about Idaho.
