Ten random things: April 19

Ten pieces of music I heard performed live this weekend:

  1. Intrada (Melchior Frank, arr. Michael Forbes)
  2. Fusion Music (Lukas Hurnik)
  3. Serenade (Alexei Haieff)
  4. Ein Heldenfanfare (Joseph Blaha)
  5. Nocturno für Horn in F (Franz Strauss)
  6. Selections from Pictures at an Exhibition (Modest Mussorgsky, arr. Lisa Golas)
  7. Sonata for Horn and Piano (Bernhard Heiden)
  8. "Appel Interstellaire" from Des canyons aux étoiles (Olivier Messiaen)
  9. Divertissement (Erwin Schulhoff)
  10. Higashi-Nishi (East-West) (John Stevens)

As previously mentioned, I attended three classical music performances this weekend: the University of Wisconsin Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble's spring concert (who performed numbers 1, 4, 6, and 10); a horn recital by a junior in the School of Music (nos. 5, 7, and 8); and the Sonora Reed Trio's performance as part of Wisconsin Public Radio's weekly program Sunday Afternoon Live from the Chazen (nos. 2, 3, and 9).
