A rare Saturday list, because I wanted the regular lists to be about the actual show, and also because I am vain. This is the most engaged I've ever been with an online fandom. Sure, I was active in the TWoP Buffy forums and the AOL Melrose Place bulletin boards, and I've been to several comic book or science fiction conventions in my day, but I was never moved to write Buffy fanfic or Doctor Who picspams (not that there was such a thing as a picspam when I was most involved with Doctor Who fandom). But Community, and more specifically the Jeff/Annie ship, has so moved me. Go figure.
(An aside: it is entirely jrs1980's fault I got involved in the fandom in the first place. Back in May, she posted that she was a Jeff/Annie shipper and that "the fanfic is very high-quality!" Now, I've read a fair few fanfics in my days, more than enough to doubt the truth of that statement. Nevertheless, her mentioning that Jeff/Annie fanfic existed inspired me to go looking for some, and by golly she was right. On average, Community fanfic really is better than that I've read in other fandoms. I have no idea why that's the case, but I think it's true.)
I won't feel insulted if you don't want to indulge my vanity by following the links above, but if you do I'd like to know what you think. If you're mildly interested but not inclined to read or look at all of them, I might recommend nos. 2, 8, 9, and 10. Number 2 is an illustrated commentary on a quiz posted at NBC.com; you need not know anything about the show to appreciate it. (And for what it's worth, it comes with a personal recommendation from Dan Harmon, the creator and executive producer of the show. No, really.) Likewise, number 9 requires no knowledge of the show or of the episodes from which the screencaps came.
As far as the fics are concerned, those two don't require any (or much) particular knowledge of the show to appreciate them. (Which is, I think, largely true of the other fics as well, with the exception of no. 6. Though I'd be really interested to get feedback on that one from someone who knows nothing about the show.) Plus, I'm particularly proud of those two, because they stretched me as a writer in a way the others didn't. It's not that I don't think, say, Head Table is good, but Jeff/Britta bantering is something that comes really easily to me, so there was no real challenge to it.
