Birthdays today

On this date in 1898, pioneering film director Sergei Eisenstein was born. Why not celebrate by pushing a baby carriage down some stairs?

Baby carriage on the Odessa Steps

(You can click on the picture to see the Odessa Steps scene from Eisenstein's Battleship Potemkin, from which the still was taken. I would've just embedded it, but some outfit called Mosfilm has blocked it from display on this website. The famous and much-copied baby carriage scene starts at 5:33, but watch the whole sequence; it's a powerful piece of film-making.)

It's also the birthday of Robin Zander, born just down the road in Beloit 60 years ago today. Here's my favorite Cheap Trick song:

He's still got it!
