This weekend's awards

I thought I would compose a post about the Annie Awards and Directors Guild Awards, which were presented this weekend, but now that I’ve set out to do so I find myself at something of a loss for words, so this will be short. I’m glad Wreck-It Ralph won the Annie Award for Best Animated Feature — it was my favorite of the nominees I'd seen — but it doesn’t make me particularly more apt to believe it will likewise win the Best Animated Feature Oscar. The Annies are a surprisingly inaccurate predictor of the Oscars. But Ben Affleck winning the DGA Award does make me more apt to believe Argo will become the fourth movie to win Best Picture Oscar without its director being nominated for Best Director. It's hard to believe that the preference shown it by the various guilds won't translate into Oscar votes.
