Technically correct -- the best way to be correct!

Peanuts comic strip by Charles Schulz, originally published 10 April 1955

Well, I was right! Yesterday's ball game was not, strictly speaking, rained out.

That's not to say it didn't rain. It did, but only after we'd arrived at the ball park and gotten our food, so we were able to eat our picnic in relative comfort under the tents while the storm raged, and by the time the game was scheduled to start, the rain had all but stopped. Yay!

Neither is it to say that the game was not canceled, because, in fact, it was. Apparently, much of the rain accumulated in center field, leaving it submerged even after the rain stopped. So it was a flood-out, not a rain-out. Totally different thing.

It is true that yesterday I said, "the game may start late ... but it almost certainly will start." But note how cleverly I hedged that statement! "Almost," such a useful word.

Anyway, I can redeem my ticket for any other home game this season, so I'll need to take a look at the promotions schedule to make sure I maximize my value. Should I go claim a free Madison Muskies cap on Turn Back the Clock Night? A Farmer Maynard bobblehead on Agriculture Appreciation Night? Or should I go the night the Soup Nazi will be making a personal appearance? So many choices!
