It was bad enough when Big 100 -- "biggest hits of the '60s and '70s" -- played "Kokomo" and other songs from the 80s, and when Moontaxi Radio played songs on their One Hit Wonders channel by artists with more than one hit to their credit.
But I never expected VH1 Classic to let me down. And yet despite promising to play "classic rock, soul and pop artists from the 60s, 70s and 80s," what did I see this morning but "Sleigh Ride" by the Brian Setzer Orchestra. And that just ain't right. First of all, while Brian Setzer is undeniably a pop artist of the 80s, the Brian Setzer Orchestra isn't; it wasn't founded until 1994. And their recording of "Sleigh Ride" was released in 2002. A song becomes a classic after a year now? I think not.
