At the end of the song "Schadenfreude" from Avenue Q, the singer spells out the word "schadenfreude." A few weeks ago, as I listened to the song, I started thinking about other songs in which words are spelled out. With the help of my officemate, I came up with ten others, which I jotted onto a page from my desk calendar and then promptly buried under a pile of papers. As I was just now cleaning off my desk, I found the list. And here it is.
- Them, "Gloria"
- The Kinks, "Lola"
- Squirrel Nut Zippers, "Hell"
- Reba McIntyre, "I'm a Woman"
- Tammy Wynette, "D-I-V-O-R-C-E"
- Lem, "Steal My Sunshine"
- Aretha Franklin, "Respect"
- Bay City Rollers, "Saturday Night"
- George M. Cohan, "Harrigan"
- Traditional, "B-I-N-G-O"
Any others?
