It should come as a surprise to no one that I saw Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban over the weekend. What may be somewhat surprising to some people is that I saw it twice. I had made plans to see it on Saturday afternoon with some DC-area TWoPers, but having been to movies with them before, I knew that there were likely to be a certain number of snide remarks (Selannia: "Hermione, have you ever seen a grown man naked?") and inappropriate snorts (elishavah, I'm looking at you). Which is all well and good when you're watching a light and fluffy movie like Monster, but a movie like PoA demands to be taken seriously. So on Friday night I saw it by myself.

The bottom line is that I liked it a lot. Seeing it twice in two days did nothing to diminish my enjoyment of it, and to be perfectly frank I would have been willing to see it a third time. Was it as good as the book? No, but it was a decent adaptation given the time constraints they had to work with. Was it better than the two previous movies? Yes, though I really would have liked to have seen a movie that combined Columbus's fidelity to the text with Cuarón's sense of atmospherics. But I'm more than happy with what we got
