Ten random things: Reader Request Month, day 33

Oct. 3:

Ten Harry Potter 'ships:

  1. HMS Pumpkin Pie (Harry/Hermione)
  2. SS Guns 'n Handcuffs (Harry/Draco)
  3. S.S. Leather and Libraries (Draco/Hermione)
  4. S.S. Fire and Ice (Draco/Ginny)
  5. HMS Wolfstar (Remus/Sirius)
  6. SS Light & Darkness (Hermione/Tom Riddle)
  7. HMS Bedknobs and Broomsticks (Percy Weasley/Oliver Wood)
  8. S.S. Puppy Love (Hermione/Sirius)
  9. SS Red Riding Hood (Remus/Ginny)
  10. SS Artist's Flame (Ginny/Dean Thomas)
tsukata wanted to see a list that mentioned pumpkin pie. I don't know if this is what she had in mind when she made the request, but she professes to be a Harry Potter fan, so I suspect she's familiar with this usage.

But for the rest of you, let me try to explain. Over in the Fiction Alley Park forums, the topics devoted to romantic relationships between certain characters are named as if they were actual ships. The practice arose from the habit of Ron/Hermione shippers refering to themselves collectively as "the Good Ship R/H." Harry Potter fans who support a romantic relationship between Harry and Hermione are collectively known as the HMS Pumpkin Pie. (Well, H/Hr shippers who post at FAP call it that. Other H/Hr shippers call it the HMS Harmony.) There's a reason it's been given such a seemingly random and meaningless name, albeit a fairly lame one. Still, it's a better name than "Spuffy." Or "Guns 'n Handcuffs." What's that all about?

For the record, there is a Harry/Susan Bones topic at FAP, but it has a lame name, so even if it had turned up using the sophisticated randomization technique I used to select these ten ship names, I would have skipped over it in favor of something more interesting.</p>
