Ten random things: August 2

Ten Academy Award-nominated songs that didn't win:

  1. "Believe" (from The Polar Express; music and lyrics by Glen Ballard and Alan Silvestri)
  2. "Learn to Be Lonely" (from The Phantom of the Opera; music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Charles Hart)
  3. "I've Seen It All" (from Dancer in the Dark; music by Björk, lyrics by Lars von Trier and Sjón Sigurdsson)
  4. "I Move On" (from Chicago; music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb)
  5. "A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow" (from A Mighty Wind; music and lyrics by Michael McKean and Annette O'Toole)
  6. "Miss Misery" (from Good Will Hunting; music and lyrics by Elliott Smith)
  7. "When She Loved Me" (from Toy Story 2; music and lyrics by Randy Newman)
  8. "Charade" (from Charade; music by Henry Mancini, lyrics by Johnny Mercer)
  9. "Jean" (from The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie; music and lyrics by Rod McKuen)
  10. "I've Finally Found Someone" (from The Mirror Has Two Faces; music and lyrics by Bryan Adams, Robert John Lange, Marvin Hamlisch, and Barbra Streisand)

That's an unusual group of people who wrote that last one. It's easy to imagine Bryan Adams and Mutt Lange working together (and in fact they have worked together many times, most notably on that horrible songs from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves); likewise Marvin Hamlisch and Barbra Streisand. But all four together, not so much.
