Ten random things: January 12

Ten villains featured on the 1960s Batman television series:

  1. Falseface (portrayed by (uncredited) Malachi Throne)
  2. Mr. Freeze (George Sanders, Otto Preminger, Eli Wallach)
  3. The Archer (Art Carney)
  4. The Joker (Cesar Romero)
  5. Nora Clavicle (Barbara Rush)
  6. Black Widow (Tallulah Bankhead)
  7. King Tut (Victor Buono)
  8. Olga Queen of the Cossacks (Anne Baxter)
  9. The Bookworm (Roddy McDowell)
  10. Louie the Lilac (Milton Berle)

Today is the 40th anniversary of the premiere of the old Batman television show, my first favorite TV show, and (as mikesterMike Sterling points out here) among the most faithful live-action adaptation of comics to the screen. And if you have trouble believing that, you really need to get your hands on a copy of Batman in the 50s, or at the very least take a look at these Batman covers from 1956 through 1962 over at the Grand Comics Database.

A pen broke in my apron pocket and now I've got ink all over my khakis. I'm not in favor of that! Luckily, my apron is covering the stain, but the ink all over my hands serves as an effective reminder that the stain is there. Bummer.
