Ten random things: April 7

Ten Wikipedia articles I have written or contributed to:

  1. Watts, Los Angeles, California
  2. The Rumps
  3. Trading Spaces
  4. Fight song
  5. Fast casual restaurant
  6. Massachusetts Avenue (Washington, D.C.)
  7. List of prime numbers
  8. Cedar Rapids, Iowa
  9. Romesco sauce
  10. Neil Flynn

Most of my Wikipedia contributions have been very minor. Take, for example, the Watts article. For that one I italicized a book title and alphabetized a list of prominent residents. Whoopie turtle. The last two are a bit more significant: I created the article about romesco sauce — all three sentences of it — and I doubled the length of the Neil Flynn article by adding a paragraph about his pre-Hollywood acting career. I can see why people can get hooked on editing. It's fun, even when your edits are as minor as a minor thing that's minor.

I once surprised my mother by coming home from school and announcing that I would like to visit Watts. This was not too very long after the infamous Watts riots, you see, so I suppose my mom didn't think it was an entirely appropriate place for me to visit. Nevertheless, I felt I had to go there so I could see Watts Towers, which I had learned about in a film shown in class earlier that day. The film showed a bunch of kids enjoying the hell out of themselves by climbing up and down the Towers. I've (mostly) outgrown my urge to climb on things, but I'd still like to see them, because they're just so weird.
