Ten random things: July 18

Ten state insects:

  1. Honeybee (Arkansas, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin)
  2. Green Darner Dragonfly (Washington)
  3. Ladybug (Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee)
  4. Monarch Butterfly (Alabama, Idaho, Illinois, Minnesota, Vermont)
  5. California Dogface Butterfly (California)
  6. Firefly (Pennsylvania, Tennessee)
  7. Two-Tailed Swallowtail (Arizona)
  8. Carolina Mantid (South Carolina)
  9. Oregon Swallowtail Butterfly (Oregon)
  10. Zebra Longwing Butterfly (Florida)

A few notes seem necessary here. First of all, both Pennsylvania and Tennessee have two state insects; curiously, in both cases the insects are the firefly and the ladybug. Strange. Second, both Texas and West Virginia have both a State Insect and a State Butterfly. In both states, the Monarch Butterfly is the state butterfly. Third, what's the deal with all the damn honeybees? Let's see a little variety, people!
