Ten random things: Reader Request Month, day 21

Ten movies or television shows that won awards for outstanding make-up:

  1. An American Werewolf in London (Academy Award, 1981)
  2. Body Bags (CableACE Award, 1994)
  3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Emmy Award, 1998)
  4. Men in Black (Golden Satellite Award, 1997)
  5. Gam gai (Golden Horse Award, 2003)
  6. Day of the Dead (Saturn Award, 1985)
  7. The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (British Academy Film Award, 1989)
  8. 2046 (Hong Kong Film Awards, 2005)
  9. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Hollywood Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist Guild Award, 2001)
  10. Planet of the Apes (Las Vegas Film Critics Society Special Achievement Award, 2002)

Today's list is for manoosha, who wanted to see George Romero's Day of the Dead mentioned in a list. It turns out there are surprisingly few awards given for achievement in makeup. Rick Baker has won most of them, so his IMDb entry was helpful in tracking them down. (Not coincidentally, many of the awards listed above were won by Mr. Baker.)
