Ten random things: Reader Request Month, day 32

Ten plants named for metals or stones:

  1. Silver maple (Acer saccharinum)
  2. Arkansas ironweed (Vernonia arkansana)
  3. Jade plant (Crassula ovata)
  4. Bronze fennel (Foeniculum vulgare)
  5. Winter heath 'Myretoun Ruby' (Erica carnea)
  6. Blue Diamond Group rhododendrons (Rhododendron intricatum x fastigiatum x augustinii)
  7. Coral flower (Heuchera americana 'Pewter Veil')
  8. Cape leadwort (Plumbago auriculata)
  9. Trailing lobelia 'Sapphire' (Lobelia erinus)
  10. Goldenrod (Soldiago gigantea)

This list was cobbled together for the benefit of raebird, who wanted to see a plant of the genus Crassula mentioned in a list. Most plants of the genus Crassula are succulent perrenials, but some look more like shrubs or small trees, and few are annuals. Most of the 150-200 Crassula species come from South Africa. Thus is my knowledge of plants of the genus Crassula exhausted.
