I spent some time yesterday catching up with some more season and series premieres.
Ed: A strong season premiere! For one thing, the old theme song is back! Hooray! I think Darryl "Chill" Mitchell will be a good addition to the cast. Danny DeVito was a fun guest star. There was hardly any Warren Cheswick in it. And there were a couple of classic quotes:
MOLLY: You should have told me!
MOLLY: Because I like to know stuff.
That's my new motto. And nearer the end:
DENNIS: You wanna watch that thing where those morons decorate each other's house?
Good stuff. Two downsides. One, no more Mike Starr. Second, this thing still isn't going anywhere! Gah, the whole Ed/Carol thing is so tiresome! I wish Ed would get a freaking clue.
Robbery Homicide Division: Eh. LIke all Michael Mann shows, it's very stylish and nice to look at, but there's not much there there. It's not bad, but there's nothing about it that makes me want to watch it again.
That Was Then: I liked this a lot more than I expected, especially given the review godam gave it. But it was, in fact, one of the best Twilight Zone episodes ever. What? An ongoing series? Huh. Well, it was still pretty good, though I can easily see it becoming rather repetitive and tiresome. Frankly, I think The Simpsons did as much with this premise as could ever be done in "Time and Punishment" from Treehouse of Terror V. "Stupid bug! You go squish now!"
And I also watched the second episode of Firefly. Now, I liked the first episode just fine, but I think this one was better, possibly because they took more than a week to write it. There were a lot of things about it I liked; the second best thing about it was the guest appearance by Doug Savant. See, back in the day I was a Melrose Place, so it's always exciting to former MP cast members getting work. And I personally thought Savant was really good.
The best part: Wash's interrogation, when he was talking about his marriage to Zoe.
WASH: The legs. Oh yeah, definitely have to say it was her legs. You can put that down. Her legs, and right where her legs meet her back. And actually, that whole area. That, and then above it.
