Artistic Advent: Christmas Mail

Christmas Mail
completed 1930, inscribed 1936
Marguerite Zorach (1887 - 1968)
oil on canvas
Christmas Mail
National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.

The National Gallery has an enormous collection of “Christmas art,” virtually all of which is religious in nature. Their collection of non-religious Christmas art is somewhat smaller; of the 149 pieces of Christmas art I found in the NGA’s online collection, only 2 of them are secular. And this is one of them.

Detail images of this work are available on the NGA web site.
