Unfinished business
A couple of weeks ago I posted twenty song lyrics and challenged people to identify them. No one seemed particularly interested in meeting the challenge, but I've decided I should post the answers anyway. hcwoodward correctly identified no. 12, and tomthedog correctly identified no. 15.

  1. A strawberry-flavored composition is all that it takes:
    Komeda, "It's Alright, Baby"

  2. Mother, I'm begging you please, to rid me of madness and cure this disease:
    The Zutons, "Pressure Point"

  3. Loving spirits will live forever:
Pat Humphries, "Swimming to the Other Side"

  4. You'll soon forget that there's any other place:
Yo La Tengo, "My Little Corner of the World"

  5. Feels like I'm losing time at a breakneck pace:
Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble, "Tightrope"

  6. What's so wrong thinking life is a song and reaching for a star?
Bobby Darrin and Johnny Mercer, "Two of a Kind"

  7. A witness and a bible:
Patty Griffin, "Love Throws a Line"

  8. What you see you might not get:
    Beastie Boys, "Sabotage"

  9. Stop! Your daddy’s been reprieved!:
Chad Mitchell Trio, "Hang on the Bell, Nellie"

  10. With a map of the end times, I can follow a straight line:
New Pornographers, "The Mary Martin Show"

  11. I was thinking of a padded cell:
    Crowded House, "Mean To Me"

  12. I’ll meet you on God’s golden shore:
Soggy Bottom Boys, "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow"

  13. Things have been dark for too long:
    INXS, "Don't Change"

  14. Lift your other leg up, fall on your ass:
    Traveling Wilburys, "The Wilbury Twist"

  15. She’s seen all the classics:
    Bowling for Soup, "1985"

  16. If I could slip the sickly ties that earthly man has made:
    Jamiroquai, "Virtual Insanity"

  17. I'll have a burger and a root beer:
    Diesel, "Sausalito Summernights"

  18. Crawl into the wave:
    New Pornographers, "Mystery Hours"

  19. What about that brand new ring?:
Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds, "Don't Pull Your Love"

  20. Uru Achim B'lev Somayach:
    Ben Folds Five, "Hava Nagila"

I'm much better, thanks. It was just enough to ruin my weekend.

Right. Same as above, I should have known 12, though.

Ditto. I gave it my best shot but I couldn't get any of them. I need the remedial version of this meme.

Giving my best shot wouldn't have done any good because I only have even heard (or heard of) two of those songs (Stevie Ray Vaughn and Soggy Bottom Boys) in my life, as far as I know.

You've probably heard Hava Nagila before, but since it's in Hebrew I don't blame you for not knowing the words. And I'm pretty sure you've heard at least part of "My Little Corner of the World," because it's the song that plays at the very end of the first episode of Gilmore Girls, as the camera pulls back from Lorelai and Rory talking to each other at Luke's. But I can't same I'm shocked that you didn't recognize, say, "Sausalito Summernight," which is pretty obscure even by obscure one-hit wonder standards.

I didn't actually see the first episode of GG, but read some short recaps, and started watching around the 6th or 7th episode. So there!

Damn that "keep only 5 episodes" default setting on TiVo!
