American Movie Classics is showing its annual Miracle on 34th Street marathon today. They started at 6:00 this morning, and they’ll continue showing it all day through 6:00 tomorrow morning. I just turned it on, and was shocked and horrified—really!—to see that they’re running a colorized version. That’s just not right. If they’re going to show it, they should show it as God intended, in the original black-and-white. It’s strange, because I watched it when they did the same stunt last Christmas Eve, and I know they showed it the right way. Maybe they’re showing the colorized version to attract younger viewers, who might be turned off by the grayscale version. If that’s the case, I imagine they’ll switch to the uncolorized version later in the day. Here’s hoping.

But I can’t be too mad at AMC; while I was typing this, they showed that “controversial” United Church of Christ commercial that was rejected by the major broadcast networks, so I’m willing to cut them a little slack. But they better not be showing this colorized crap when I get home from church tonight.
