Kerr Eby (1889–1946)
Christmas Trees, ca. 1930s
etching on paper
Smithsonian American Art Museum
In retrospect, it might have been better to post this etching earlier. Some people (such as my brother) have already taken down their Christmas trees. On the other hand, my mom always liked to keep her Christmas tree well into January; Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she had an extensive collection of Christmas ornaments, so she liked to keep the tree up as long as possible.
Kerr Eby served as a "combat artist" during World War II, traveling with the United States Marine Corps throughout the South Pacific. The Naval Historical Center maintains a nice online exhibit of many of his wartime sketches, which are well worth a look.
