Artistic Advent: A Merry Christmas

Today's Advent artwork is dedicated to allthatjazmyne, who sent me an Christmas card via e-mail that, she assures me, would be extremely pretty and sparkly if it wasn't just plain text.

A Merry Christmas
Thomas Handforth (1897–1948)

Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C.

Fans of children's books may recognize the name Thomas Handforth, who won the Caldecott Medal, awarded annually to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children, in 1939 for his book Mei Li. Which, mysteriously, seems now to be out of print. I didn't think those Caldecott and Newbery winners ever went out of print.
