Artistic Advent: The Adoration of the Magi

Giovanni di Paolo (c. 1403–1482)
The Adoration of the Magi, c. 1450
tempera on panel
The Adoration of the Magi
National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.

This painting is somewhat unusual in that it depicts the Magi with halos. Indeed, the Magi, assuming they existed, weren't even Christian, so typically they wouldn't have been given halos by the artists of the day. Detail images of this painting are available on the National Gallery web site.
