Yesterday I sold a copy of The Great Gilly Hopkins, which featured on its cover a reproduction of the Newbery Honor Medal it won in 1979. When I turned the book over to scan the UPC, I was reminded that it had also won a National Book Award. Now, how do you suppose that makes the National Book Foundation feel, knowing that publishers think that winning a National Book Award is less impressive than being a runner-up for a Newbery Medal?
