A question for you librarians in the audience: are libraries allowed to circulate books which have not yet gone on sale? I spotted a book on the new releases shelf at the library this afternoon that I know for a fact has a strict on-sale date of November 1. I took it to the information desk and explained that it had not yet gone on sale and that therefore it probably shouldn't be out on their shelves, at which point one of the librarians said that since they were not selling it, it was OK for them to make it available to be checked out. I happen to think that's a load of hooey, but I have to admit, I don't actually know. Anyone?
