Last April, the Cathedral Choral Society spent four nights -- four long, grueling nights -- at Washington National Cathedral recording hymns for a follow-up to our very successful 1999 release Hymns Through the Centuries. Recording an album is not as glamorous as one might think; it involves a lot of standing around waiting, and when you do get to sing, you invariably end up singing the same thing over and over and over until you just want to die. Maybe if we could have done it in fewer takes if we'd rehearsed more in advance. I don't know. I just know that we were there for three to four hours each night, and by the last day of recording I was sick of it.
That said, I think it turned out really well. We sound really good! And don't just take my word for it; even the producer says so! And he should know, he's a Grammy Award-winning producer.
The CD isn't available in stores yet, but you can order it directly from the record label, Gothic Records. Do them and us a favor and give it a try!
