The Taking of Christ, 1602
Society of Jesus of Ireland, on loan to the National Gallery of Ireland
A couple of weeks ago, I read a book about this painting: Jonathan Harr's The Lost Painting. It's pretty good: it was an interesting story well told, and I came away from it knowing more about art history than I did going in, so it was definitely worth reading. It's kind of slight, though, and it suffers in comparison with Harr's last book, the brilliant A Civil Action. Still, if you're into art history and/or the Italian Baroque school, it's worth a read.
