Ten word processing programs:
- Sprint (MS-DOS)
- Pages (OS X)
- Ami Pro (Windows)
- Gypsy (Xerox Alto)
- SpeedScript (Commodore 64 and VIC-20, Atari 8-bit, Apple II)
- AbiWord (Linux, OS X, Windows, ReactOS, SkyOS)
- Applix Word (Linux and other UNIX-based OSes)
- Papyrus (Windows; Mac; OS/2)
- AtariWriter (Atari 8-bit)
- lexicon (MS-DOS)
I do the vast majority of my word processing with OpenOffice.org Writer, which has a wonderfully powerful search-and-replace function and can natively save documents as PDF files. That said, I think my favorite word processor remains WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS. Reveal Codes is the most staggeringly useful tool ever invented for tracking down formatting errors, and it boggles my mind that other developers haven't stolen the idea for their own programs.
