Ten ships we'd probably see in fan fiction if Anne of Green Gables was as popular today as it was ninety years ago:
- Anne/Josie Pye
- Katie Maurice/Violetta
- Anne/Gilbert Blythe
- Muriel Stacy/Mrs. Allan
- Anne/Stella Maynard/Priscilla Grant
- Marilla/Rachel Lynde
- Anne/Miss Barry
- Gilbert/Charlie Sloane
- Anne/Diana Barry
We'd also have at least one AU story in which Anne develops magical powers and goes to Hogwarts and marries Harry Potter's great-great-grandfather, because it's a known fact that all Potter men have a thing for redheads. And probably a crossover fic with Samantha and Nellie from the American Girl franchise.
My apologies to anyone for whom reading Anne of Green Gables is a cherished childhood memory. But you know, I couldn't not do this list after reading this passage from chapter 12: "You're a queer girl, Anne. I heard before that you were queer. But I believe I'm going to like you real well." That's Diana Barry speaking, by the way. And then there's this, from chapter 35: "With the 'rose-red' girl, Stella Maynard, and the 'dream girl,' Priscilla Grant, [Anne] soon became intimate..." It's almost too easy.
