Ten municipal parks I've been to:
- Tuscarora Creek Park (Leesburg, Va.)
- Mission Bay Park (San Diego, Calif.)
- Seven Gables Park (Wheaton, Ill.)
- Lincoln Way Park (Mount Vernon, Iowa)
- Capital View - Homewood Park (Kensington, Md.)
- Guy Mason Recreation Center (Washington, D.C.)
- Bloomingdale Playground (New York City)
- Simonton Street Beach (Key West, Fla.)
- Jamaica Park (Boston, Mass.)
- Legion Memorial Park (McFarland, Wisc.)
For the purposes of this list, a park is any public land maintained by a municipal government for recreational purposes. Some of the things on this list would be recognized as a park by anyone who saw it. Others, not so much. Lincoln Way Park, for example, is a bridge. It originally carried traffic on Rt. 30 (the Lincoln Highway) over the Chicago and North Western Railroad tracks. It's no longer structurally sound enough to carry automobile traffic, but it's still open to pedestrians, and it remains a popular destination for Cornell College students.
Incidentally, I was with boliver when I visited three of these parks (nos. 2, 7, and 8), and with
rustydog at two of those three (
7 2 and 8). Makes them memorable, dontcha know.
