Art on Sunday: The Chief's Canoe

In addition to his work as a painter, Browne was also an accomplished mountaineer. He was part of the first group to ascend Mt. Olympus in Washington, and he made three pioneering attempts (all ultimately unsuccessful) to climb Mt. McKinley in Alaska. A small mountain in Alberta, where he lived for many years, has been named in his honor.
