This and that:
- I recently discovered powerpopradio.com, an Internet radio station that plays naught but power pop. It's fabulous. Also fabulous: Nick Lowe's "Cruel to be Kind," which I just heard a few minutes ago. What a great song.
One problem though: the live365.com media player doesn't play nice with Firefox. I found a work-around on the live365.com KnowledgeBase, but when I tried it it crashed the browser. Not on! Good thing I'm not one of those militant anti-Microsoft people.
- I noticed the other day that Rachael Ray can be seen wearing the same shirt on two of her cookbook. Ironically, the more recent of the two is subtitled, "No Repeats."
Speaking of Rachael Ray, I'm curious to see whether she and Paula Deen will continue to dominate the cookbook market during this Christmas season. Last year, the two of them accounted for eight of our ten best-selling cookbooks. I told one of my associated the other day that if Deen and Ray would join forces to write a cookbook called The Da Vinci Cookbook, it would probably be the best-selling book of all time.
- I'm not sure what to make of the rumors that Ryan Phillippe was having an affair with Abbie Cornish. On the one hand, I have long considered him my arch-nemesis, so I'm naturally inclined to believe any terrible thing I might hear about him. On the other hand, if the rumors are true, then he's even dumber than I would have thought, which heretofore I would have thought impossible.
- Publicity photos for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix reveal a disturbing lack of Susan Bones. I am, naturally, outraged to the point of spluttering incoherence. Oddly, though, we seem to be in the midst of a Golden Age of Harry/Susan fan fic. I'm aware of at least four on-going novel-length Harry/Susan fics, all of which are, so far, pretty darn good. So at least I've got that going for me.
