  • Mood:

Well, I don't know about you, but I feel pretty good this morning. The House is out of the hands of the radical Southern conservatives who have controlled the Republican party of late, and I'm cautiously optimistic that the Democratic candidates in Montana and Virginia will hold on to their slim leads and throw control of the Senate to the Democrats as well.

One race I'm particularly pleased about is the 2nd Congressional District of Iowa, where Democrat David Loebsack defeated the long-serving Republican incumbent Jim Leach. Loebsack is an acquaintance of mine; he's a professor of political science at my alma mater, Cornell College, and in 1991 I took Politics 101 with him. He's a nice guy, but very liberal. That he beat a moderate Republican like Leach speaks volumes about the mood of the electorate.

I may have more to say about all this later after I analyze the results, but for now I'll just say yay!
