Early thoughts on the Golden Globes

Wow, I've seen very few of the Best Picture nominees for the 2003 Golden Globes. To be fair, that's due at least in part to many of them not having been released yet. I've seen none of the Drama nominees -- About Schmidt, Gangs of New York, The Hours, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Pianist. And of the Comedy or Musical nominees -- About a Boy, Adaptation, Chicago, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and Nicholas Nickleby -- I've only seen About a Boy and Greek Wedding. I'm a little surprised that Nicholas Nickleby got a nod in the Comedy or Musical category; yes, it's a comedy, but comedies based on classic literature are sometimes put into the Drama category. The 1995 Emma Thompson adaptation of Sense and Sensibility springs to mind as a prime example.

More on this once the Hollywood Foreign Press Association gets off its stupid foreign ass and posts the full list of nominees on their website.
