Henry Wilson, 1885
Vice Presidents Room, United States Capitol, Washington, D.C.
Speaking of Henry Wilson... I discovered another interesting fact while looking for this picture on the Senate web site. As I said yesterday, all former vice presidents have busts in the Capitol (well, all but Al Gore... his apparently hasn't been finished yet), but Wilson's was the very first. His bust was commissioned as a memorial after his death, and it was always intended for display in the Vice Presidents Room. Shortly afterwards, the Senate commissioned five other busts of former vice presidents to be displayed in the Senate chamber, and the rest of the collection followed. I'm not sure when Gore's bust will be done, but Dan Quayle's wasn't installed until 2002, so it's obviously not something they rush into.
