Ten random things: July 12

Ten surprises in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix:

  1. Despite the pivotal role she played in the novel, Susan Bones is not in the film as a named character.
  2. Halfway through, Dan Radcliffe and Rupert Grint switch roles.
  3. Kreacher is portrayed by Hugh Grant in a rubber mask, but his speaking voice is provided by Maurice Lemarche doing his Orson Welles impersonation.
  4. After [the character who dies] dies, the corpse is launched into orbit around the newly created Genesis Planet.
  5. Peter Dinklage plays Grawp.
  6. The house teams play no-limit Texas Hold'em instead of Quidditch.
  7. Snape's worst memory is now of a time he was asked via firecall by a Wizarding Wireless DJ to identify what he would get if he added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood, but was unable to answer because his mouth was full of peanut butter.
  8. During the climactic duel at the end of the movie, Voldemort tells Harry that his mother was a hamster and his father smelt of elderberries, and then throws a cow at him.
  9. Instead of kissing Cho Chang under the mistletoe in the Room of Requirement, Harry kisses Draco Malfoy.
  10. An armadillo can be seen in one scene.
So yeah, I saw Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix yesterday after work. I'll post something more substantive about it later, probably tomorrow evening, but for now I'll say I liked it. Remarkably, both the first and last items on this list are true. The other eight, perhaps somewhat less so.</p>
