As I've mentioned before, I take a Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator course on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Three of the other students in the class and the instructors all work together at the same agency, and last night they kept making cryptic references to some big project they had planned for this weekend. Then one of them asked another of the students, who works at the corporate headquarters, if he had been told where everyone was meeting on Saturday. Which was just the last straw.
"You know," I said, "I'm a little insulted that no one asked *me* to help on Saturday."
D. got a crazed look in his eye. "Dude! Do you want to come? We can use all the people we can get!"
Well, crap. I was just making a joke, but it's not like I had anything better to do on Saturday. And if they really needed the help ... still, why work on Saturday when you can, you know, not work on Saturday? Then Other D. said the magic words:
"I could use the overtime."
Oh yeah, that's right! I get extra money when I work on Saturdays! I'm so there.
The one downside to working on Saturday is that I'll miss my favorite radio show, Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me! Of course, I can always listen to the audio stream later, so it's not that big a deal. But speaking of WWDTM, one of the regular panelists is Adam Felber, who writes a very funny web site called Fanatical Apathy, which yesterday featured one of the funniest things I've read in a long time. Ladies and gentlemen: Tom Cruise Is Not Gay. And don't you forget it!
