Madonna and Child, circa 1500
Tempera painting on canvas transferred from wood panel
Columbia Museum of Art, Columbia, S.C.
Today's work of art comes from the state of South Carolina, a state I've visited once. I planned a trip there because it was the only state on the eastern seaboard I had not yet visited. Fun trip. I stopped at the legendary roadside attraction South of the Border! I saw a statue of Strom Thurmond! I got to help strike the colors at Fort Sumter National Monument, thanks to my freakishly extensive knowledge of the history of the forty-nine star flag! I saw a woman painted silver stand still for a very long time! Good times.
