Skating Race, 1920
Oil on canvas
National Museum of American Illustration, Newport, R.I.
Today's work of art comes to us from the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. I'll bet you didn't know that was the full name of that particular state, did you? Well, now you do. I have been to both Rhode Island -- also known as Aquidnick Island -- and the Providence Plantations. Nice place. I especially enjoyed Newport. Speaking of Newport, this classic Norman Rockwell painting can be found there, in the National Museum of American Illustration. It's not what you'd called Christmas related, but it's well below freezing here in Northern Virginia, so seemed appropriate.
