Ten random things: January 8

Ten kings of Scotland who did not die of natural causes:

  1. Malcolm III (ambushed and killed by Robert de Mowbray, Earl of Northumbria)
  2. James I (assassinated)
  3. James IV (killed at the Battle of Flodden Field)
  4. Alexander III (died after falling off his horse)
  5. Cuilén (burned to death)
  6. Lulach (assassinated and succeeded by Malcolm III)
  7. Macbeth (killed by Máel Coluim mac Donnchada at the Battle of Lumphanan)
  8. James II (killed by an exploding cannon during the siege of a Scottish castle held by the English)
  9. Constantine I (killed fighting Vikings)
  10. Duncan II (killed by Máel Petair of Mearns)

Watched The Last King of Scotland last night. Intense performance by Forest Whittaker, but I wasn't particularly impressed by James McAvoy's performance. As for this list, James II was a last minute addition, after realizing Mary I had not been a king of Scotland.
