Ten things you may not have known about obtaining a Canadian passport:
- It costs $87 to obtain a Canadian passport, of which $62 is the passport fee and $25 is the consular service fee.
- The maximum size of the passport photo is 50mm wide by 70mm tall.
- In the passport photo, the length from chin to crown of head must be 31mm to 36mm.
- If you require a Certificate of Canadian Citizenship, contact the office of the Registrar of Canadian Citizenship at 1-888-242-2100.
- If you were born in Quebec, only birth certificates issued on or after January 1, 1994, by Le Directeur de l'état Civil in the province of Quebec are accepted as proof of Canadian citizenship.
- You may apply in person for a Canadian passport at a Passport Canada office, at a participating Canada Post office, or at a participating Service Canada Center.
- If you do not wish your place of birth to appear in the passport, you must submit a written request to that effect.
- It can take up to six weeks to receive your passport.
- You must sign your usual signature on all three pages of your application form, and your signature must not exceed the inner limits of the signature box.
- Canadian passports are issued to Canadian citizens only.
