From Curse of the Spellmans by Lisa Lutz, page 236:
[N.b.: Isabel Spellman is speaking to her 15-year-old sister Rae. Henry is Rae's mentor of sorts.]
"What are you watching?"
"Dr. Who: The Five Doctors."
"Where did it come from?"
"Henry. He has, like, all forty years of Doctor Who on DVD. I just want to watch the new series, but he won't let me until I've viewed some of the older stuff. He has so many rules," Rae said.
Speaking as a Whovian of long standing -- eighteen years! -- I heartily approve. I do not, on the other hand, approve of what happens a little more than fifty pages later: Isabel mentions having watched "Aliens of London" but provides a synopsis of "The Empty Child" in the footnote. But I do approve of novels with footnotes, so it balances out.
