Ten posters or signs hung near the entrance to the polling place I worked at yesterday:
- List of Virginia Voters' Rights and Responsibilities
- Notice of new overvote procedure
- List of acceptable forms of ID
- Request for election officers to serve during forthcoming elections
- Sample ballot for the Democratic Party Primary Election
- Notice that the use of cell phone or "other transmissional devices" is prohibited
- Map of Precinct 208 of the Potomac Election District
- Notice that in a primary election, no voter may vote for the candidates of more than one party
- Zero report for the Accuvote optical scan ballot machine
- No smoking
When all was said and done, we had about 140 voters at my precinct yesterday. Slow! In the Republican primary, incumbent Frank Wolf outpolled his challenger, Vern McKinley, by about 10 to 1, which was consistent with the results throughout the Congressional district. In the Democratic primary, political newcomer Mark Turner handily beat 2006 Dem nominee Judy Feder, which was decidedly inconsistent with the district-wide result. (She won the district by about twenty-five percentage points.)
