Ten random things: August 26

Ten films in which songs used in Singin' in the Rain were originally featured:

  1. Hollywood Revue of 1929 (1929)
  2. College Coach (1933)
  3. Going Hollywood (1933)
  4. Sadie McKee 1934)
  5. Broadway Melody of 1936 (1935)
  6. The Broadway Melody (1929)
  7. Lord Byron of Broadway (1930)
  8. Stage Mother (1933)
  9. Babes in Arms (1939)
  10. San Francisco (1936)

With the exception of "Moses Supposes" and "Make 'Em Laugh," all the songs in Singin' in the Rain were first used in other MGM musicals. Actually, that's largely true of Make 'Em Laugh as well; although it's considered an original song, it's pretty much a note-for-note copy of Cole Porter's "Be a Clown," which was written for the 1948 Gene Kelly/Judy Garland vehicle The Pirate, also an MGM production.
