Ten random things: November 24

Ten artists who have covered Jingle Bell Rock:
  1. Kathie Lee Gifford (1995, Rock N Tots Cafe: A Christmas "Giff" Song Album)
  2. The Three Suns (1959, Ding Dong Dandy Christmas)
  3. Hilary Duff (2002, Santa Claus Lane)
  4. Sweethearts of the Rodeo (1988, Greatest Children's Christmas Hits)
  5. Billy Idol (2006, Happy Holidays: A Very Special Christmas Album)
  6. Bobby Sherman (1970, Christmas Album)
  7. Stephen Bishop (1997, The Gift of Christmas)
  8. The Ventures (1965, Ventures' Christmas Album)
  9. Johnny Mathis (1969, Give Me Your Love for Christmas)
  10. The Refreshments (2003, Rock 'n' Roll X-mas)
Originally recorded by Bobby Helms in 1957, "Jingle Bell Rock" is perhaps the least rockin' song ever to contain the word "rock" in the title. It's a nice little rockabilly tune though.

Incidentally, did you know I saw Kathie Lee Gifford perform live in concert back when she was still known as Kathie Lee Johnson? She opened for Rich Little, who was standing in for Bill Cosby at an Explorer Scout convention I attended while in high school. He was pretty funny, but he's no Bill Cosby. As for Kathie Lee, she was fine, though her act was not exactly the kind of music I most enjoyed listening to in high school.
