Are you smarter than a junior high student?

The Plaxico Burress news reminds me of a story one of my professors told me when I was in college. Back before he entered academe, he had taught in middle school and high school history and coached junior high wrestling. One day he was in his office after school when two of his wrestlers came running/limping in. "Coach, you gotta help us! We're in a lot of trouble!" He asked them what was wrong.

"We shot each other in the foot!"

See, they had been wondering what it felt like to be shot, so they had "borrowed" a couple of their dads' guns, and shot each other. Pretty dumb, but arguably not quite as dumb as what Burress did. Plus, they had the excuse of being junior high students, a class of people not well known for their good judgment. Of course, the same could be said of professional football players...
