Advent 2008: All Alone on Christmas

Hey, seeing as how this is the Christmas season, how about an actual Christmas song? Here's one of my favorite Christmas pop songs: "All Alone on Christmas," possibly the only worthwhile thing to come out of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. (It's also in the infinitely better Love Actually, which actually is where I first became aware of it.) Written by Steven Van Zandt and sung by veteran girl group singer Darlene Love (and featuring at least half the E Street Band), it's the best record Phil Spector never produced. I was amazed to learn it was written in 1992; it sounds like a lost track from the legendary A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector. There's a lot to like about this song, but I think my favorite part, oddly enough, is the little key change leading into the instrumental break, starting at 2:18. Enjoy!
