Advent 2008: Winter Song

Earlier this month my brother gently encouraged many of his friends and relatives to consider obtaining a copy of new album: The Hotel Cafe Presents...Winter Songs. And when I say "gently encouraged" I mean harshly demanded. At one point, he dangled his youngest daughter over the edge of a balcony and threatened to drop her if we didn't get it. Well, I'm rather fond of Molly, so I found a copy and gave it a listen. And it's good! Not as good as the Roches' We Three Kings, but a fine album nonetheless. My favorite song is an original composition by Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson, "Winter Song," a haunting beautiful song about how not being with the one you love makes winter seem colder. It's sort of the flip side to a song I posted earlier this month, "All That I Want" by the Weepies, which is about how being with the one you love makes Christmas seem brighter.

Incidentally, if you like this song, you should strongly consider buying the album on which it appears, as $0.50 from the sale of each album will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
