Poet's Corner: Make the Pie Higher

Make the Pie Higher

I think we all agree, the past is over.
This is still a dangerous world.
It’s a world of madmen
And uncertainty
And potential mental losses.

Rarely is the question asked
Is our children learning?
Will the highways of the Internet
Become more few?
How many hands have I shaked?

They misunderestimate me.
I am a pitbull on the pant leg of opportunity.
I know that the human being and the fish
Can coexist.
Families is where our nation finds hope,
Where our wings take dream.

Put food on your family!
Knock down the toll booth!
Make the economy gooder!
Vulcanize society!
Make the pie higher! Make the pie higher!
Major league.

Arranged by Richard Thompson (born 1957) from actual quotes by George W. Bush (born 1946)

In honor (?) of George W. Bush's last Saturday as President of these United States, here is a poem constructed from his own words, most of which spoken on the campaign trail in 2000. (And yes, they're genuine; snopes.com tracked down the sources.) It was originally published in the Washington Post the Sunday before Bush's first inauguration.
