Grand Canyon, n.d.
oil on canvas
Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington
This has got sort of a Fauvist sort of feel to it, though at the same time the colors seem very naturalistic. Odd, that.
Incidentally, I picked this painting a few weeks ago for reasons that escape me right now, but on the spur of the moment I changed my mind and replaced it with the Calder photo. I rescheduled it for the following week, but the Andrew Wyeth died so I pushed it back again. Then last week the Smithsonian American Art Museum website was unavailable when I needed to look up the name of the artist, so I had to round up something else at the last minute.
